Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation property experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Ocracoke. Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting the perfect rental home in the Ocracoke area:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Friendly Grrrl: 3 bedrooms, 2 Baths. Dog Friendly. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your trip.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
