Ocracoke vacation rental tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- Select dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. The Sea Glass Cottage - Gorgeous waterfront Property in the Northern Pond Area has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
