Tips to get the perfect Ocracoke rental home experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. Book your rental property in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and choose the perfectrental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. The Sea Glass Cottage - Gorgeous waterfront Property in the Northern Pond Area has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you are enamored with, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. Call the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
