Tricks and tips to get the very best Ocracoke vacation property experience:

When to go & When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • To start, have your family commit to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Tight Lines: Unique dog friendly home has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
