How to book the best Ocracoke rental home experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • To find the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

How to pick the best vacation home in Ocracoke:

  • Select vacation dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Landshark: Dog friendly waterfront home, game room, sound views. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
