Ok, (not really).... when we were looking to buy, this place was listed for $110,000,000 (which was a typo) and the place was a DUMP!!! While under construction, we referred to it as the "million dollar double wide" and the name stuck, just didn't seem right to call it anything else. The home has been COMPLETELY refreshed from top to bottom. New Bathrooms, New bedrooms, New Kitchen, New exterior....... List goes on and on. We really feel like we have spent a million bucks on it. Located in the heart of the village, Its a short walk or bicycle ride to all the eateries and stores. Bicycle rental is across the street, coffee shop is 3 blocks away. Golf cart units are available in multiple locations on the island. There is a humongous covered porch with a walkway to it. Out back we have an outdoor shower with a walkway to the porch.

Getting the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

When to reserve a Ocracoke rental & When to go:

  • To find the best vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. MILLION DOLLAR DOUBLE WIDE!!! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. text the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
