Our top Vacation rental tips:

Find your best deal:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning and picking the perfectrental home:

  • To start, have your group choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Harbor II: Pet friendly, views of both the Lighthouse and Silver Lake. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke beach you simply love, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. text the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
