Strategies for getting the best Ocracoke rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the best rental home in Ocracoke:

  • First and foremost, have your group select date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Flip Flops: Dog friendly, deck, screened porches, rooftop deck. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
