Ocracoke rental booking tips:

When to go & When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home:

  • Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. To get the largest rental for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the perfect vacation home:

  • Choose dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Cottage, great for a couple or small family. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is optimal for your trip.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
