Strategies to get the very best rental home experience:

When to go & When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Will's Place: Canal front home in Oyster Creek with docking has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your trip.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. text the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
