Booking the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the right Ocracoke rental home:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Sounds Perfect: Located on Pamlico Sound with kayak access has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
