Getting the best vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
