Vacation rental home tips:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- To book the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. La Dolce Vita: Charming Condo in the Heart of Ocracoke Village has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or applied to your contract.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
