Tips to get the perfect rental experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the perfect rental home in the Ocracoke area:

  • To start, have your family choose trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Dog Friendly close to Ocracoke's beaches, screened porch, deck views has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
