Tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Ocracoke rental & When to go:
- Summer months are high season in the Ocracoke area. To book the best rental home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by having your group commit to dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Dog Friendly close to Ocracoke's beaches, screened porch, deck views has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is right for your family.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the host right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
