Ocracoke vacation rental tips:
When to visit Ocracoke & When to book:
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer time is high season in Ocracoke. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental home in the Ocracoke area:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. “Rendezvous” A Spacious, Newly Renovated 4BR Charmer has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
